The Department of State Services (DSS) is said to have detained eight main suspects in the murder and rape of Olajide Blessing, a University of Ilorin 300-level agricultural science student.
The undergraduate was raped and murdered at her elder sister’s home in Ilorin’s Tanke neighborhood.
The state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the state commissioner of police, Mohammed Lawal Bagega, and the Minister of Women Affairs all decried the occurrence and demanded justice for Blessing.
Blessing was raped and murdered while her hands and mouth were bound with a cloth, and a note bearing the words “UNILORIN doesn’t forgive” was found on her chest.
The incident had sparked protests by many civil society organizations across the country.
Several DSS sources have now disclosed to DailyTrust that the arrested suspects are helping the service with the investigation.
But when contacted for comment on their arrest, the spokesperson of DSS, Peter Afunanya, requested that a text message be sent.
He was yet to respond to the message after over seven hours before this report was filed.
But the Kwara State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mumini Jimoh (SAN), confirmed that some suspects had been arrested over the issue and will be arraigned before Justice I.A. Jusuf on Wednesday.
