Friends and supporters of a football player known only as Jonah are mourning his death in the Angwa-Ali town of Nasarawa State’s Akwanga Local Government Area.
The footballer collapsed and died on the field last weekend, according to the PUNCH.
His friends and fans, who expressed their sorrow on social media, said he would be much missed.
“Rest in peace…,” wrote Okefu Abraham, who paid tribute to Jonah on his Facebook page. A friend who becomes a brother… Akwanga, the Depot football team, and Angwa-Ali will all miss you, but I shall miss you the most.”
Another friend, Gomma Leonard, also wrote on his Facebook page, “My buddy, my aboki, my brother you promised me to perform with me at the studio if I come home this time. Is that the promise we made buddy, why did you leave me, why so soon buddy? We have been planning to make it in life since primary school up till now but why aboki you leave me with sadness, but wish you dey. God knows why he called you but you are still in my heart buddy, never forget you are no more in body but we’re together in spirit brother missed you, heartbreaking to me buddy.”
A Facebook user, Isaac Luka, noted that the death of the deceased had shocked the community.
He said, “What a sad Reality to lose a young and energetic guy. He died when playing a football match on the field. Jonah may your soul rest in peace… Angwan Ali Lafia Road Akwanga is in sad moment. Your death has shocked the whole youths.”
One of his friends, Jacob Gideon, said, “Indeed this is sad news to the entire Angwan Ali community most especially the youth kigbu, Jonah rest in peace with the Lord.”
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, when contacted by our correspondent, said the matter was not reported to the police.
