On Wednesday, tensions erupted in Orlu, Imo State, after unidentified gunmen decapitated a 70-year-old retired mechanic, Felix Okechukwu, also known as Akaonyewetere, in the Okporo community of the state’s Orlu Local Government Area.
Berechukwu Udemba, a palm wine tapper, was also beheaded by the invaders.
The gunmen are said to have paraded the heads in Orie Okporo’s community market after severing their heads.
“They were slaughtered in the early hours of today,” a community source stated (Wednesday). The two guys were beheaded and their skulls were put on a table in the Ori Okporo market plaza. Felix Okechukwu was beheaded. He was almost 70 years old at the time. He was a retired mechanic from the village of Ududu.
“The second person, Berechukwu Udemba from Amanato-Okpuru community, was a palm wine tapper.
“They killed them in their various houses, brought their heads to Orie Okporo community and displayed them on a table. The families retrieved the severed heads from the market this morning.”
Eyewitness saw a video clip on social media showing the heads displayed on a table at the market square.
The reason for the killings had yet to be ascertained as of press time.
A spokesperson for the police in the state, Micheal Abattam, said the police would investigate the incident.
