A commercial car driver has been detained in Jigawa State for allegedly masterminding armed robberies of his passengers.
ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, a police public relations officer in Dutse, the state capital, verified this to reporters.
The incident occurred after six passengers boarded a commercial vehicle Peugeot Citron 897 with registration number KNS 572 TRN at the NNPC roundabout in Kano on their way to Babaldu village in the B/Kudu local government, according to Adam.
Unknown persons waiting on the roadside waved the car to stop as they arrived at Tsamiyar Tannaga, a border crossing between Kano and Jigawa State, he added.
He said the passengers, however, warned the driver not to stop at the point at the hour of the night but the driver ignored them and parked his vehicle.
Police spokesman said immediately the driver stopped, four (4) unknown Fulani men armed with sticks and cutlasses with their faces covered with masks came out from the bush and robbed them the sum of one hundred and ninety-five thousand naira (195,000.00).
The victims reported the incident to the police after they have strongly suspected the driver to be the master minder of their attack.
